OUR MISSION

The charitable purpose of the Project shall be to prevent suicide by helping people battling mental health issues and the stigma of mental health know that they are validated, respected, and not alone. We want to ensure that the basic mental health needs of our young people are being met with timely access to mental health support and treatment. We also want to ensure the facility where these people are treated has the basic resources and the staff are appreciated. We also offer Abby Hornung’s Memorial Scholarship to support students entering the mental health field.

ABOUT ABBY ' S ANGELS

Abigail “Abby” Caitlin Hornung was a compassionate young woman whose kindness showed in everything she did. She was a wonderful, giving, caring person; someone who enjoyed challenges and found joy in cooking and helping others. Abby loved spending time in the kitchen, trying new recipes, and sharing meals with the people she loved.

In September 2024, we lost Abby to suicide at the age of 22. Abby had struggled with mental health challenges, having dealt with anxiety and panic attacks for several years, although she had seemed to be doing better. The pain of losing Abby became a catalyst for action, as her family recognized how many young people face similar struggles without adequate support or understanding.

In Abby’s memory, her family founded Abby’s Angels, a nonprofit effort dedicated to preventing suicide and supporting young people dealing with mental health issues. The organization focuses on reducing stigma, improving access to timely mental health care, and ensuring treatment facilities have the resources they need. It also offers a memorial scholarship in Abby’s name for students entering the mental health field, extending her legacy into future generations of helpers.

Through Abby’s Angels, Abby’s life continues to have impact. What began in heartbreak has grown into a mission of awareness, compassion, and prevention — a reflection of the caring spirit Abby herself embodied. Her story is both a remembrance of who she was and a call to action, aimed at ensuring that other families might be spared the same loss, while helping young people struggling with mental health know they are not alone.
