Abby's Story

Abigail "Abby" Laine is 5 year-old girl who was diagnosed on April 13th, 2007 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). She is a big sister to Caroline (age 3) and baby brother, Michael, who was born in June. Her parents are Kelley (Murphy) and John Laine. She has a very cuddly black Labrador Retreiver, named Kramer. She is a smart, well-mannered, kind, nurturing, and creative little girl. Abby loves arts and crafts, dress-up and "pretend" play with her sister, cousin Meghan McCarthy, and friend Colby Sprague. She attends Kindergarten in the Lunenburg Public Schools. She enjoys reading books, making puzzles, playing games, and singing and dancing. Abby loves the character Tinkerbell and is excited to someday see her at Cinderella's castle in Disney World. Nearly every day, Abby visits her "Mimi" and "Boppa" (Frances and Patrick Murphy- originally from Pepperell) at their home on Hickory Hills Lake in Lunenburg. Her uncle Sean Murphy frequently visits to play outdoors with Abby and her sister. She looks forward to playdates and sleepovers at Uncle Mike and Auntie Kerry's house where she gets to play with cousins Ryan, Matthew, and Meghan McCarthy. Abby is being treated at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester. Family and friends are doing all they can to visit Abby and are setting fundraising goals to help with her care. We hope that this website will give you insight into what a wonderful child she is and provide you information about her progress. We encourage you to tell her story to others in hopes of increasing our fundraising efforts. Please sign the guest book and provide words of encouragement for Abby and her parents. There is also a link to donate to our fundraising efforts and find out information on future events within this site?

Thank you for your support.

From the Laine, Murphy, Sprague, and McCarthy families, we would like to take this time to thank each and everyone of you who has helped support our family through this difficult time. Because of the support and fundraising efforts, Kelley was able to be by Abby's side during the toughest phases of her treatment and many of the medical expenses have been taken care of. The most important gift of all was the gift of time. It is invaluable that Abby was able to have her mother home with her when she needed her the most. All of your prayers, thoughts, wishes of encouragement, meals, and donations were such amazing acts of kindness and will never be forgotten. Abby will continue to fight her battle with Leukemia, with an anticipated treatment completion date of August 2009. Kelley will continue to provide updates about Abby's medical care and to journal the family's experiences. Our families have been changed forever and because of the wonderful experiences we had with thoughtful, caring, and loving friends, neighbors, colleagues, and caregivers.
